A limited-slip differential (LSD) on a golf buggy is designed to improve traction and handling, especially when driving on uneven or slippery surfaces, like wet grass or gravel. In a basic open differential, the power is split evenly between the wheels, which can lead to one wheel spinning freely if it loses grip (e.g., on mud or uneven terrain). This can make the golf buggy struggle to move efficiently.
With a limited-slip differential, the system allows both wheels to turn at different speeds (which is important for smooth cornering) but applies torque to the wheel with more traction when the other starts to slip. This feature helps maintain forward motion and control.
